Ugly And Nasty Beauty Surprises
By Renee Petro
Imagine having a facial to transform your skin to perfection before your wedding day and the aesthetician extracts a pimple aggressively causing blood vessels and redness. Dana Elise, Director of Laser Solutions in Beverly Hills, helped this bride and recommends a Photorejuvenation Facial using Intense Pulsed Light when brides need to eliminate broken capillaries, acne, uneven pigmentation, age spots, sun damage, fine wrinkles and freckles. Elise also recommends professional eyelash extensions since they come in "different lengths, feel comfortable, look natural and can last for five weeks."
Banish Pimples and Prevent Cold Sores
Dr. Francesca Fusco, associate at Wexler Dermatology Group in Manhattan, advises brides to stay away from any new skin treatments, foods, or beauty products within a month of their wedding. "If you get a deep pimple the week of your wedding, have a cortisone injection from a dermatologist and make a paste with a one percent hydrocortisone cream and apply it overnight to reduce inflammation." Another tip from Dr. Fusco is for brides who have a history of getting cold sores to ask their doctor for a prescription that stops outbreaks and to take the pills for five days before the wedding.
Waxing: How To Calm A Rash Or Bumps
Fusco said to contact your dermatologist before waxing if you are taking acne medicine or tanning because skin becomes more sensitive and could get burned. Do you ever use waxing and then notice little red bumps on your skin? Use a loofah and gently scrub the area. Exfoliate to get rids of the bumps and prevent ingrown hairs. Have handy Balmex rash cream -- it's another way to get rid of the bumps. Experts advise having waxing done at least a week before your wedding day.
Skin Perfection: Try Oxygen Treatments
Bliss beauty expert Stephanie Gerard recommends extensive exfoliation if you need to fix uneven self-tanning. Book your professional tanning application at least one week or more before the wedding. If you want sallow skin to perk up, she recommends a triple oxygen instant energizing mask, or a triple oxygen complexion reviver facial.
Puffy Or Tired Eyes: Fix-It Supplies In Your Cupboard
Wake up on wedding day with puffy or tired looking eyes? Lactic acid in milk works to reduce swelling -- just saturate two cotton pads with milk and place on your eyes for 10 minutes. Other tips for reducing tired looking eyes include: drink plenty of water, sleep with your head elevated, enjoy some coffee, place a cold caffeinated tea bag on each eye, or hold a metal spoon under cold water and then place it on your eyes for 60 seconds. Don’t consume too much alcohol or salt the week prior to your wedding - both can cause puffiness and dark circles under your eyes.
Hair and Make-Up Advice for No Surprises
If you want your hair colored, permed, chemical straightened or with extensions - - book them at least one month before the wedding. Jeanette Fernandez, bridal booking agent for Bumble & Bumble in Manhattan, advises that you have a hair consultation appointment at least a month before the wedding. "Remember to bring your veil or headpiece, pictures of looks you want to try and a camera."
Make-up artist Lisa Curanovic -- owner of Salon Aridoma in Dobbs Ferry NY advises that brides blend their foundation to their neckline and match their natural skin tone. "Add a little bit more eye and lip color since photos look best that way," Curanovic says.
She added: "The biggest bonus of leaving your hair and face to a professional on your wedding day is that you will be able to sit back and relax while they make you gorgeous."
